ASTM A276 UNS S32760 is a super duplex stainless steel bar known for its exceptional combination of strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance. It is part of the Zeron 100 family and is widely used in offshore, chemical, oil & gas, marine, and desalination industries.
S32760 stainless steel bars feature a dual-phase microstructure consisting of approximately 50% austenite and 50% ferrite, giving them an optimum balance of toughness and strength. Compared to standard duplex and austenitic stainless steels, S32760 bars offer superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking, particularly in chloride-rich environments.
Chemical CompositionThe chemical composition of ASTM A276 UNS S32760 (weight %) is:
| Element | % Composition | Role in Alloy |
|---|---|---|
| Chromium (Cr) | 24–26 | Oxidation resistance and pitting resistance |
| Nickel (Ni) | 6–8 | Toughness and corrosion resistance |
| Molybdenum (Mo) | 3–4 | Pitting and crevice corrosion resistance |
| Copper (Cu) | 0.5–1.0 | Enhances corrosion resistance in acids |
| Tungsten (W) | 0.5–1.0 | High-temperature stability and corrosion resistance |
| Nitrogen (N) | 0.2–0.3 | Strengthening and pitting resistance |
| Manganese (Mn) | ≤1.0 | Improves hot workability |
| Silicon (Si) | ≤1.0 | Deoxidizer and strength |
| Carbon (C) | ≤0.03 | Minimizes carbide precipitation |
| Phosphorus (P) | ≤0.03 | Reduces brittleness |
| Sulfur (S) | ≤0.01 | Minimizes hot cracking |
| Iron (Fe) | Balance | Matrix of the alloy |
The mechanical properties of S32760 bars are as follows:
| Property | Typical Value |
|---|---|
| Tensile Strength | 800–1,000 MPa |
| Yield Strength (0.2% offset) | 550–750 MPa |
| Elongation | ≥20% |
| Hardness | 290–330 HB |
| Density | 7.8 g/cm³ |
| Modulus of Elasticity | 200 GPa |
| Impact Toughness (Charpy V-notch) | ≥150 J at room temp |
Heat treatment processes for S32760 bars:
Solution Annealing: 1050–1150°C, followed by rapid quenching to maintain duplex microstructure.
Stress Relieving: 300–500°C to relieve internal stresses.
These treatments enhance corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, while maintaining phase balance.
