Introduction
Stainless Steel 904L (UNS N08904 / WNR 1.4539) is a highly alloyed austenitic stainless steel containing high nickel, chromium, molybdenum, and copper. It is known for its superior corrosion resistance, especially against sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and chloride-induced pitting/crevice corrosion.
When produced in the form of round bars, 904L stainless steel finds extensive usage in chemical plants, seawater handling, pharmaceutical equipment, pulp & paper, gas scrubbing systems, and offshore industries.
Unlike conventional stainless steels (304/316), 904L is a super-austenitic stainless steel with very low carbon content, making it resistant to intergranular corrosion even after welding.
